Brief

Permissionless & autonomous network of radios(Zone Anchors) offering secure location services through time synchronization. FOAM came to Pensa looking for a progressive, brand-driven industrial design for their zone anchor, a user-installed module. The decentralized FOAM Location network, independent of centralized sources like GPS, consists of Zone Anchors (ZA). These remotely-controlled radio nodes are coordinated to transceive LoRa packets to and from one another and configured to log those packets to a remote data store such as a blockchain. The Zone Anchor consists of the PCB stack, battery, LTE Modem, and two antennas.

Ambition

Translating brand attributes like community, open-source, intelligence and trustworthiness to experience-driven industrial design.

The design language of the Zone Anchor leverages established brand equities while embodying the attributes of a promising and intelligent future. Its robust monoblock structure instills a sense of security and reliability, while its precision-machined aluminum body with a copper finish adds a uniquely premium look that complements its advanced technology. The Zone Anchor is initially manufactured for a pilot batch of 100 units to undergo testing before entering mass production.

Wide range of mounting options to provide flexibility. The Zone Anchors are designed to be easily installed in various outdoor rooftop situations. Iterative ideation and prototyping have resulted in forms, materials, and assemblies that address waterproofing and heat dissipation challenges.

Modularity

Design language that is future-proof for modularity. We designed Zone Anchor's adaptable design language to allow space for future product line expansion, such as adding an independent modem or a battery backup.
