Spring Vessel

—A gestural pen holder that doubles as a color swatch  

Overview

Started as a project to create a functional 3D-printed object to test new filament colors in the studio, the Spring vessels are designed to keep pens, pencils, rulers, and other tools tidy while bringing vibrant colors to your workspace. Assembled from two shells of varying heights, the vessel holds different-sized items visually balanced and easily accessible. The taller shell gently bends backward at the top, creating an inviting gesture and a wider opening while acting like a hugging backrest for your tallest items.

I 3D printed these using the available PLA colors in the studio, marking the bottom of each with the filament's brand info. This allows me to reference the exact color in future projects, meaning they essentially serve as functional color samples.
